TL;DR
- A GTA 6 pre-order comes in two editions only: Standard at $79.99 and Ultimate at $99.99. There is no Collector’s Edition.
- Every pre-order placed before November 20 includes the Vintage Vice City Pack plus one month of GTA+.
- Boxed copies are a download code, not a disc, and pre-load starts November 12 for everyone.
- What to watch: Take-Two’s August 7 earnings call, where official pre-order numbers should surface for the first time.
A GTA 6 pre-order is a simpler decision than the internet makes it sound. Rockstar opened pre-orders on June 25, 2026, and flattened nearly every variable that usually complicates a launch. Two editions, one bonus, one deadline that actually matters. This page is the map; the deep pages for each piece are linked as we go.
What a GTA 6 pre-order actually gets you
Strip away the hype and a GTA 6 pre-order buys you three concrete things: a copy of the game on November 19, a guaranteed pre-load slot on November 12, and a launch-window bonus if you order early enough. That’s it. No exclusive story, no separate deluxe tier hidden behind a bigger number, no retailer steelbook to hunt.
The game is single-player at launch. Rockstar’s own line is that GTA VI “is a single-player experience,” and no online mode has an announced date or roadmap. So a pre-order is a bet on Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos’s campaign across the state of Leonida, not on a live service. If you were holding out for a day-one multiplayer hook, there isn’t one to pre-order.
Platforms are locked to current-gen: PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S. No PS4, no Xbox One, no Switch 2, and no PC version has been announced at all. Any listing promising a GTA 6 PC pre-order is selling something that doesn’t exist yet. Rockstar’s PC ports have historically trailed console by 12 to 19 months, so a PC pre-order isn’t a near-term option regardless of what a storefront claims.
One more thing a pre-order does not buy: certainty on launch timing. The November 19 date has held since it was confirmed, with no delay announced, and pre-orders being live makes walking it back far more expensive. The next official checkpoint is the August 7 earnings call.
The two editions: Standard at $79.99, Ultimate at $99.99
Rockstar kept the lineup unusually clean. Standard Edition is $79.99. Ultimate Edition is $99.99. Those are the only two SKUs. The Collector’s Edition that keeps circulating in forum wishlists was never announced and does not exist.
Both editions contain the complete game. The $20 gap on Ultimate buys extra in-game content woven through the campaign rather than dumped in a menu: a ‘95 Grotti Cheetah, his-and-hers Hawk & Little revolvers, personalized sidearm variants for each lead, exclusive outfits and venues, and a couple of bonus activities like the PTT Youngin$ compound raid. It buys zero story. The campaign is complete on Standard.
Standard Edition
$79.99
The complete campaign, nothing cut.
- Full Jason & Lucia campaign across Leonida
- Vintage Vice City Pack (order before Nov 20)
- One month of GTA+
- Pre-load from Nov 12
- Upgrade to Ultimate any time after launch
Ultimate Edition
$99.99
Everything above, plus in-game extras.
- Everything in Standard
- '95 Grotti Cheetah
- Hawk & Little Morgan revolvers (his & hers)
- Personalized sidearms for Jason and Lucia
- Exclusive outfits, venues and bonus activities
- No additional story content
Our read Rockstar confirmed the Ultimate upgrade can be bought after launch, which removes the usual pre-order pressure. Start on Standard, play a few hours, and pay the $20 later only if the extras appeal. The one deadline that is real is the November 20 bonus cutoff, and it applies to both editions equally.
The full item-by-item breakdown lives in GTA 6 Standard vs Ultimate edition, and our verdict on whether the upgrade justifies itself is in is the Ultimate Edition worth it.
The pre-order bonus and the November 20 deadline
This is the one time-sensitive part of the whole decision, so read it twice. Any pre-order placed before November 20, 2026, on either edition, includes the Vintage Vice City Pack (retro ‘80s-styled gear for both Jason and Lucia) plus one month of GTA+.
Two pieces of fine print. First, the GTA+ month is redeemable until March 31, 2027, and it auto-renews monthly after the free period unless you cancel. Set the phone reminder now; thank yourself in December. Second, the bonus is identical no matter where you buy, so there’s no “best” store to chase for it. What the pack actually contains is broken down in the Vintage Vice City Pack explainer.
Because the bonus attaches to both editions equally, the real time-sensitive question is whether to pre-order at all, not which edition to pick. The Ultimate content carries no deadline; the Vintage Vice City Pack does. Order before November 20 and you have both editions’ bonus locked. Miss it and you can still buy the game, just without the launch gear.
Where and how to pre-order GTA 6
At a high level, there are two lanes. Digital pre-orders live on exactly two storefronts: the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Store, each carrying both editions. Boxed pre-orders are live at the major US retailers, and every one of them charges the same $79.99.
A few things worth knowing before you click:
- Ultimate is digital-only in practice. The boxed retail listings we’ve checked are Standard-only. If you want the $99.99 Ultimate Edition on day one, you’re buying from the PlayStation or Xbox store.
- Pricing is flat. Nobody is discounting off list in the US. The comparison between stores comes down to delivery timing and format, not price.
- No account or card details go here. This is a hub page, not a checkout. Pre-order directly through the official storefronts or a retailer you already trust.
The full store-by-store rundown, including boxed delivery windows and the international picture, is in where to buy GTA 6. If you’re ordering from India, the first-party numbers are cleaner and cheaper in relative terms, and that’s covered in the GTA 6 pre-order India guide.
The code-in-box reality
If you pre-order a “physical” copy expecting a disc, stop. There isn’t one. The boxed edition contains a download code, not media, and an internet connection is required to install the game even for single-player. Rockstar has been upfront about this on the listings, and at least one retailer states plainly that a disc will not be included in the box.
Practically, that means a boxed pre-order and a digital pre-order end at the same place: the same download, tied to the same account. The box buys you two things a digital purchase can’t. A gift under the tree beats an emailed code, and some people want the spine on a shelf. Just know the recipient needs the console and an account before the code means anything, and once redeemed it’s locked to that account permanently.
Pre-load is the one genuine timing perk of ordering early on either lane. It opens November 12 for everyone with the game secured, so launch night on November 19 becomes a button press instead of a download measured in hours. What time the game actually unlocks is a separate and still-unanswered question — Rockstar has published no unlock schedule, and we explain what that means for your timezone in GTA 6 release time by country. A boxed buyer redeeming a code on the 12th gets the same pre-load window as a digital buyer. The all-digital decision, and who it actually inconveniences, is unpacked in the no-disc explainer.
What to watch
August 7 is the next hard checkpoint. Take-Two reports its Q1 FY2027 earnings that morning, and analysts will press for pre-order demand — though the company has promised no units disclosure, and the quarter closed June 30, five days into the window. The widely-quoted “39 million pre-orders / $3 billion first-day” figures are not analyst estimates but a debunked viral claim from one unsourced post; Take-Two has published nothing.
The same week is where insiders like Tom Henderson project Trailer 3 landing, a call he’s been explicit is based on Rockstar’s marketing patterns rather than sourced information. If a third trailer drops near the earnings call, expect a fresh wave of pre-order traffic and, possibly, the first company-confirmed sales figures in the same window. Our tracking on that timing sits in the Trailer 3 release date page.
Two things could rewrite this page. A collector’s edition would add a column overnight, though none has been announced and every “it’s coming” post reasons from GTA V precedent rather than any Rockstar statement. And any break from flat list pricing closer to launch would finally make the where-to-buy comparison interesting. Until either moves, the pre-order calculus is stable: Standard now, upgrade later if the itch arrives, and order before November 20 for the bonus.
