TL;DR
- At launch, GTA 6 is, in Rockstar’s official wording, “a single-player experience.” No online mode has been announced.
- November 19 gets you Jason and Lucia’s full campaign across Leonida. No multiplayer component has been announced for the launch release.
- The free GTA+ month in the pre-order bonus applies to today’s GTA Online on GTA 5, not any GTA 6 mode.
- Co-op, crossplay, split-screen: all unannounced.
- Rockstar has released new footage — “An Extended Look,” announced August 6 and premiered August 27, running 26:49 — though its published description does not say whether an online mode appears.
Does GTA 6 have multiplayer? None has been announced, and you don’t need a leak forum to get there: Rockstar’s own pre-order announcement describes the game as “a single-player experience.” Here’s what that wording covers on launch day, what it leaves open, and straight answers to the questions people search right after this one.
Confirmed Confirmed for the November 19 launch
- A single-player campaign — Rockstar's wording is "a single-player experience"
- Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos across the state of Leonida
- Identical campaign on both Standard and Ultimate
Unconfirmed No announcement of any kind
- Any online or multiplayer mode
- Co-operative play, online or couch
- Crossplay between PlayStation and Xbox
- Split-screen or local multiplayer
- A date, format or roadmap for a future online mode

Does GTA 6 have multiplayer at launch? What Rockstar says
Since pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026, the official store pages have carried the same description: GTA 6 is a single-player experience. The PlayStation listing is flagged “1 player” with offline play enabled, and the Xbox listing carries the same single-player description. No online mode, no versus mode, no multiplayer feature of any kind appears in the official store listings or in Rockstar’s pre-order materials. Nothing there is marked as delayed or promised for later. It simply is not part of what goes on sale.
That absence was the genuine surprise of pre-order week: the company behind GTA Online is shipping its biggest game with no announced online component. The reaction became a story of its own, and we covered the announcement and the business fallout in the single-player-only story.
What you actually get on November 19
The launch product is the campaign. You play Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, a crime couple working across the state of Leonida, Rockstar’s Florida, with Vice City at its center and named regions including the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Mount Kalaga, and Ambrosia. Lucia opens the story walking out of Leonida Penitentiary, and Rockstar’s official “Only in Leonida” page has already introduced a supporting cast by name: Boobie Ike, Dre’Quan Priest, Real Dimez, Raul Bautista, and Brian Heder. None of the official media so far, two trailers and the released screenshots, depicts anything multiplayer.
The practical frame: launch is November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with pre-loads open from November 12. Standard runs $79.99 and Ultimate $99.99, and both contain the identical campaign — the extra $20 buys in-game extras such as exclusive venues, vehicles, and gear, all of it solo content per Rockstar’s editions breakdown. The boxed edition contains a download code rather than a disc, so installing requires an internet connection even though everything you install is single-player.
What the single-player wording does and doesn’t rule out
Read the official line for what it is: a description of the launch product, not a pledge about the future. No online mode is announced for day one. It confirms there is no announced roadmap for one. It does not say never. Rockstar has left itself every option while committing to none.
Two things frame what could come after launch. The reporting: Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported in December 2024 (as covered by RockstarINTEL) that Rockstar plans a significant online mode with GTA Online-style monetization. That is journalism about internal plans, not an announcement, and nothing official has confirmed it in the twenty months since. The leaks: an Xbox file-structure analysis hints at a separately installable online component, and UK employment-tribunal filings reported by Kotaku revealed playtest sessions with at least 32 players — all unconfirmed and tiered out in GTA 6 Online 2 leaks. How Rockstar’s two previous campaign-then-online launches actually ran, and why this one’s silence looks deliberate, is our GTA 6 Online release date breakdown.
The GTA+ month is not a GTA 6 online pass
All pre-orders and purchases before November 20 include the Vintage Vice City Pack — launch is November 19, so day-one purchases qualify too , and digital pre-orders add one month of GTA+ — and that second item is the most misread line in the bonus. GTA+ is Rockstar’s existing subscription, and its benefits pay out in the GTA Online that exists today, running inside GTA 5. Redeeming your free month gets you perks in a game that launched in 2013. It is not early access to anything in GTA 6, and it is not evidence that a GTA 6 online mode secretly exists. The simplest read: the bonus promotes Rockstar’s current subscription during the biggest launch window the company has ever had, and says nothing about what comes after.
One housekeeping note: the free month must be redeemed, not applied automatically, and the Xbox listing gives you 180 days from pre-order to do it. It auto-renews once the free period ends, so set a cancellation reminder the day you redeem it.

Is there co-op? Not announced. No official material mentions co-operative play in any form, online or couch, despite a two-protagonist setup that makes plenty of people assume otherwise.
Is there crossplay? There is nothing to cross yet. With no multiplayer mode announced, crossplay is not a launch question; it becomes one only if an online mode arrives later. Rockstar has made no statement about crossplay in GTA 6 either way.
Is there split-screen? Not announced. No official listing mentions local multiplayer of any kind.
Does single-player need the internet? To install, yes. Even the boxed copy is a download code, so there is no offline path to getting the campaign onto your console. Rockstar has not detailed offline-play requirements beyond the install itself.
An earlier version of this page carried a separate crossplay section asserting that GTA Online has never supported crossplay, describing Rockstar’s cross-platform account layer, and listing four technical preconditions. Those claims were removed on August 9, 2026: none is supported by a source in this site’s verified registry, and we do not print unsourced technical assertions as fact.
If an online mode ever arrives, how would it be paid for?
Nothing has been announced. What follows is structure and precedent, not reporting.
The $79.99 campaign is a separate purchase. Take-Two’s pre-order announcement prices the Standard Edition at $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99. Whatever a future online mode might cost, that price buys the single-player game. No subscription, season pass or battle pass for GTA 6 has been described.
GTA+ is Rockstar’s existing membership, not a GTA 6 online pass. Rockstar’s own support article confirms digital pre-orders placed before November 20 include one month of GTA+ and sets out how to redeem it. Nothing in that article, or in any other Rockstar material, attaches the membership to a GTA 6 mode.
The financial gravity is documented, and its scope matters. Take-Two’s Q1 FY2027 results release reports that recurrent consumer spending accounted for 84% of total Net Bookings for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. That figure covers Take-Two’s entire portfolio — NBA 2K, Zynga mobile titles and the Grand Theft Auto series together — not GTA 6, and it is Net Bookings rather than GAAP revenue. It establishes a company-wide incentive to build recurring products. It does not tell you the shape, price or date of anything in GTA 6.
What GTA Online demonstrates about scale. GTA Online reportedly averaged nearly 10 million weekly active users across platforms — per internal figures that reached VGChartz through a data breach, not through any Take-Two disclosure. Treat the number as reported rather than audited. It is the reason a successor service is widely assumed, and assumption is not announcement.
What to watch
One dated checkpoint has since passed. On August 6, 2026 Rockstar announced Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, which premiered on Netflix on Thursday, August 27 at 3 p.m. ET and arrived on Rockstar’s own YouTube channel and the GTA VI site at 9 p.m. ET the same day. Rockstar’s official upload runs 26:49, but Rockstar published no format description and no account of what the footage covers, so whether online is mentioned at all is unknown. Rockstar has not applied the label “Trailer 3” to it, though plenty of coverage does. The full breakdown of what was and wasn’t said is in our page on what Rockstar actually dated.
For the record on the prediction we tracked: Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson projected a trailer drop in early August, possibly near Take-Two’s earnings call, and was explicit that this was pattern-reading from marketing plans rather than sourced information. As of August 7, no trailer has dropped; an announcement did, on August 6, dating footage three weeks out. Take-Two reported Q1 FY2027 separately, before the market opened on Friday, August 7, and nothing on the record connects the Extended Look to it. The written release disclosed no GTA 6 pre-order total, said nothing about any GTA 6 online mode, and restated November 19 twice: in Strauss Zelnick’s quoted remarks and in the company’s own future-lineup table. The quarter it covers ended June 30 while pre-orders opened June 25, so it contains six calendar days of pre-order activity: June 25–30 inclusive. Our full read is in Take-Two’s Q1 FY2027 results.
Until that changes, the honest answer holds. GTA 6 has no announced multiplayer mode, and any launch date you see attached to a future online mode is invented. We will update this page the day that changes.
