TL;DR
- The dated record is in the launch panel above: the date, the platforms plus the PS5 Pro Enhanced badge on Sony’s listing, pre-load, pre-orders, and the one move that already happened. No PC version is announced.
- Live pre-orders and Take-Two’s FY2027 guidance are both built around this date, which makes a walk-back costly.
- Take-Two’s August 7 results restated November 19 twice and reiterated FY2027 net bookings guidance. An Extended Look has since premiered, on August 27. The next dated event is the November 19 launch.
If you came here for a date, you already have it: November 19, 2026. The more useful question is whether it holds. After one date move, a live pre-order page, and full-year guidance built around this launch, it is as close to settled as a game date gets. Settled is not the same as unchangeable, though, and this article treats it that way.
NeonPulse computed record
How long has each date actually stood?
Every launch date Rockstar has committed to, and the number nobody else publishes: how many days it held. Of the 2 that have run their course, 2 moved. The current one is still running, so its final duration is unknown — it is counted separately, never averaged in. Pre-load, pre-order and event dates are different populations and are excluded from this table. All figures as of .
| Commitment | Announced | Replaced | Stood | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trailer 1's announcement said 'Coming 2025'. | 514 days | record | ||
| The launch date was previously May 26, 2026, announced May 2, 2025. | 188 days | record | ||
| GTA 6 launches Thursday, November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The PlayStation listing additionally carries a PS5 Pro Enhanced badge. still standing · not yet complete | still standing | ≥ 288 days | record |
The current launch date has stood at least 288 days as of 21 Aug 2026. That is a floor, not a total: the commitment has not finished, so its final duration cannot be known yet. The 2 launch dates that did run their course stood 514 and 188 days before moving. With 2 completed observations this is a description of what happened, not a rate with statistical weight — and it is not a prediction about the current date.
How these numbers are computed
Stood = the date a commitment was announced, subtracted from the date it was replaced — or from today if it still stands. Both dates come from the claim ledger, and each carries a primary source.
Announced is the date the commitment entered the public record, not the date NeonPulse recorded it.
Still standing rows are right-censored: we know the commitment has lasted at least this long and cannot know its total until it either ends or the game ships. They are shown with a ≥ and are excluded from the completed-observation figures, because averaging an unfinished duration in with finished ones biases the result downward.
Scope. Launch dates only. Pre-load, pre-order and event commitments are tracked separately and are not part of this table's denominator.
Disclosure lead time — the gap between a first public report and the official confirmation — is not calculable from this dataset. It needs a verified first-report timestamp, which the ledger does not carry. It is shown as not calculable rather than derived from the one timestamp available.
Change log across the whole claim ledger: 46 entries — 26 initial creations, 5 actual status transitions, 12 corrections that left the status unchanged. Only the middle number is a claim changing status; an earlier version of this line counted all three together.

The platform list is a hard current-gen cut. Sony’s own listing states the game is “not playable on PlayStation 4,” and Rockstar has announced no Xbox One, Switch 2 or PC version. If you own a last-gen console, this is a current-gen game and only a current-gen game. Rockstar has announced no PC version and no PC date at all; what its port history does and doesn’t imply about a window is worked through in GTA 6 PC release date.
The boxed copies matter less than the box suggests. A physical case holds a download code, not a disc, which means you need an internet connection to install even though the campaign is single-player. That last point trips up buyers who assume a disc means offline installation. It does not; there is no disc in the box at all. Anything advertising a Collector’s Edition or a disc-based version is selling you something Rockstar hasn’t announced.
Has GTA 6 been delayed?
An announced date has moved once. The earlier entry below is a window, not a date — a year with no month and no day. A window lapsing is not a delay.

November is the second specific date Rockstar has attached to this game, which is exactly why people keep asking whether it will stick. The short version: exactly one announced date has moved, from May 26, 2026 to November 19, 2026. Before that came an open-ended “Coming 2025” window rather than a day on the calendar — a distinction worth drawing, though Forbes and most outlets count the pair as two delays. The full timeline, including the delays people remember that never actually happened, is in our GTA 6 delay history.
A slip on a game this size is not unusual. Red Dead Redemption 2 also took its time before it shipped in October 2018, and those extra months are a big part of why that game landed as polished as it did. The stated reason has been the same both times. Rockstar’s November 2025 announcement framed the extra months as finishing the game “with the level of polish you have come to expect,” alongside an apology for the added wait.
What is unusual is how specific and how public the current date has become, and that changes the math on another delay. A soft date is easy to move. A single Thursday, printed on live store pages that are already taking money, is not. The prior move forced a public apology, and another would land harder because the company has spent the year telling investors this one is real.
Why the November 19 release date now looks solid
Two things separate this date from the one that came before it.
First, the money is already moving. Pre-orders opened June 25, 2026, region by region at midnight local time. Once customers are paying and retailers are booking revenue, moving the date stops being a quiet internal calendar change and becomes a public, refund-triggering event. That raises the cost of a slip enormously.
Second, the number in the spreadsheet depends on it. Take-Two’s official FY2027 net-bookings guidance sits at $8.0–8.2 billion, and the company names the November 19 launch as the driver behind it. It is the biggest financial commitment the company has publicly tied to this launch. Missing November would blow a hole in a forecast Wall Street is already pricing in.
What could still move it
Only one thing has moved this date before, and it was not money. Rockstar said the extra months were for finishing the game “with the level of polish you have come to expect” — a judgement made inside the studio, on information nobody outside it can audit. The last time the internal and the public schedule diverged, reporting got there before any announcement did: Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier wrote in December 2024 (via RockstarINTEL, because Bloomberg blocks our fetcher) that the game had already missed internal targets while Take-Two was still projecting fall 2025. Rockstar has announced nothing about the game hitting gold, which is not evidence either way — it means the variable that moved the date last time is the one nobody outside the studio can measure. Pre-orders and guidance make a move expensive; they do not make it impossible.
Pre-load, pre-orders, and the checkpoints left
The runway between now and launch has a few dated markers worth putting in your calendar.
- August 27, 2026 An Extended Look Announced August 6. Netflix 3 p.m. ET; Rockstar YouTube and the GTA VI site 9 p.m. ET. The official upload runs 26:49; Rockstar has published no account of its contents.
- November 12, 2026 Pre-load opens The download unlocks seven days before launch.
- November 19, 2026 Launch day PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, per Rockstar; Sony's listing adds a PS5 Pro Enhanced badge.
Pre-orders (live since June 25). Both editions are open, and the storefront-by-storefront picture is in where to buy GTA 6. All pre-orders and purchases made before November 20, 2026 include the Vintage Vice City Pack — that cutoff is the day after launch, so day-one buyers qualify too — and digital pre-orders specifically add one month of GTA+, which must be redeemed within 180 days of placing the pre-order, per the Xbox Store listing. The Ultimate upgrade can be bought after launch, so there is no reason to jump to the $99.99 tier just to lock in content.
Pre-load. The download unlocks so the game is sitting on your drive when the servers flip. Given the install-requires-internet rule, pre-loading early is the smart move if your connection is slow.
Launch. Rockstar has not said why it picked a Thursday, but the effect is to front-load the opening weekend by giving buyers a long first stretch with the game before the weekend even starts. What Rockstar has not published is an unlock time — whether the game goes live at midnight in your own timezone or on a single global clock is still unannounced, and the region-by-region tables circulating now trace to no official source. We track that separately in GTA 6 release time by country.
One thing that is not on the calendar: an online mode. GTA 6 ships as a single-player game, with no announced date, format, or roadmap for any online successor. Schreier’s December 2024 report, cited above, also said a significant online mode was in the works, but Rockstar has announced nothing, so anyone promising you a launch-day multiplayer is guessing. The pattern from past releases had online modes arrive weeks after the campaign, not alongside it, which is worth keeping in mind before you build expectations around November 19 itself.
What to watch next
The earnings checkpoint has passed, and it went the boring way. Take-Two reported Q1 FY2027 results before market open on Friday, August 7, 2026. The results release restates November 19, 2026 twice, once in Strauss Zelnick’s quoted remarks and once in the company’s own future-lineup table beside PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and reiterates FY2027 net bookings guidance at $8.0 to $8.2 billion. Not every line held: the release headline separates “updates fiscal year 2027 outlook” from that reiteration, so net bookings is the number stated as unchanged rather than the outlook as a whole. Q1 net bookings came in at $1.39 billion against $1.42 billion a year earlier, down 3 percent, which the company describes as slightly above its own guidance range, and GAAP net loss was $34.1 million, or $0.18 per share. No pre-order total appeared; the word “pre-order” is not in the release, and the quarter it covers ended June 30, six calendar days into a pre-order window that opened June 25. The date survived the one scheduled moment where a change would most plausibly have surfaced first.
New footage is no longer part of that watch list, because it already has its own date. On August 6, 2026 Rockstar announced Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look for August 27. It premiered on Netflix at 3 p.m. ET and arrived on Rockstar’s own YouTube channel and the GTA VI site at 9 p.m. ET. Rockstar does not call it Trailer 3, and its official upload runs 26:49, but Rockstar published no content description, so what it shows is not established here, because we have not watched it. The announcement restates November 19. Worth recording alongside it: through July 2026 the most-cited prediction, from Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, pointed at an early-August drop near the earnings call, and Henderson was explicit that he was reading Take-Two’s marketing plans rather than reporting a source. No footage landed in early August; an announcement did, on August 6, dated three weeks out. We track it at GTA 6 Trailer 3 release date. Everything else about the GTA 6 release date is already on the record.
